Have you ever felt uncomfortable when you have been invited over to a friend’s dinner party and everything has been set up perfectly in a beautiful formal dining table? People sometimes forget that in the pursuit of creating the perfect dining room, they fail to take account of their guests’ comfort. This can be even more true if you are inviting for dinner people who have young children who may not be the most accomplished, and tidy, of eaters. What ever happened to the casual dining tables that we all grew up with and feel perfectly comfortable with?
However, where the lack of casual dining tables is felt even more acutely is when you actually live in a house where every meal is a formal event at a highly formal and decorated dining table. These days it seems as if every parent is trying to create times for their family to spend together and as our lives just seem to be getting more and more hectic, this goal is just getting harder and harder to achieve. Why not forget all of the formality and make sure that your family and especially your children are comfortable sitting at casual tables rather than trying to teach them the etiquette of formal dining every night.
You stand a much better chance of ensuring that your kids are comfortable and feel at home when they are eating at casual tables rather than the more formal kinds that everyone seems to be opting for these days. If your children feel comfortable at casual dining tables they will be more likely to sit and eat their meal with you at the table, and what’s more, they will be likely to stick around after everyone has finished eating and enjoy a nice family conversation around the table for a few minutes after the meal. This is probably something that most of us adults took for granted in our own childhoods, when casual dining tables were the norm. So it is a shame, that as time gets shorter and shorter, and it is becoming more difficult for families to spend time together, that we are scaring our kids away from dinner with fancy dining décor.
Of course the ideal position is to be in a situation where you have room in your house for both casual dining tables and a more formal dining room, but there are many ways that you can make room in your home for casual tables without having to sacrifice space from other things. Also, if you are worried about the cost of decorating your home, then you can take comfort from the fact that casual dining tables generally cost a lot less then their more formal counterparts, making them a win-win choice for your family.
