No home would be a home without the comfort and throw of dining room rugs. Dining room rugs come in a large variety of sizes, colors, designs and shapes. When the selection of that special rug begins, consideration of several things needs to be researched.
One would be the size of the rug; a rule of the thumb is when you push your chair away from the table, it should still be on the rug, not halfway off. Usually 30 inches or more is acceptable. The most common sizes of the dining room rugs on the market are 10 feet by 12 feet 7 inches or 9 feet 6 inches by 12 feet.
Dining room rugs also comes in assorted fibers, such as wool or synthetic yarns. Synthetic fibers are more brilliant in color, with easy maintenance, and outstanding value. Wool, a natural fiber that gives a soft rug long-term performance, is one of the finest rugs available One example is the New Zealand wool, and it lasts forever. Yet natural fiber rugs are harder to clean and the color has a tendency to fade over the years.
The home with a low to moderate amounts of traffic and no young children to spill things may be the best choice for dining room rugs. Polypropylene yarn rugs are easy to clean and will not fade; it has been treated especially for much wear and tears. Obviously, dining room rugs made from this material are for all levels of high traffic and for homes with pets and children.
The dining room rugs need to be placed over a quality rug cushion or underlay to absorb the shock and noise, and prevent the rug from “creeping” across the room and slipping. There are two types to choose from: a rug-over-carpet and rug-over-hard surface floor. The size of the rug will determine the size of the rug cushion; you can either cut it with household scissors or have a professional cut it for you. The dining room rugs will last much longer plus makes it more enjoyable in the home with a recommended rug cushion or overlay.
Caring for your dining room rugs will further enhance its quality and durability, and keep it clean. The best way is to vacuum the rug weekly, spot cleaning with a mild soap. Of course, it can also be professionally cleaned. Hand tufted rugs do shed, both the synthetic and the wool, so vacuuming would be a necessity. Mass produced dining room rugs out of synthetic yarns do shed less than the handmade rugs do, and they are easier to spot clean.
