Queen Anne Cherry Dining Sets

Queen Anne Cherry Dining Sets Overview

Queen Anne reigned in England from 1702 to 1715, during which time various pieces of furniture became popular to include Queen Anne cherry dining sets. During her time on the throne, Baroque style furniture was extremely popular.  Even today, Queen Anne cherry dining sets remain a great option since they work well with various home styles. Even so, you would often see this particular style in traditional, colonial, or Victorian homes.

The interesting thing about Queen Anne cherry dining sets or any Queen Anne furniture for that matter is that during its initial history, the styles were infused with a number of importations. For example, Queen Anne furniture is an amazing collection of forces from French to Dutch. Because of this, you would find various additions, depending on the local artist. However, no matter the embellishments, wood, or designer, all Queen Anne cherry dining sets are elegant.

Another wonderful aspect of Queen Anne cherry dining sets is that prior to their history, much of the furniture had little to offer. Although beautiful, the sophistication was missing. However, as Queen Anne furniture moved to the forefront, furniture makers were challenged to use their greatest talents. The goal was to create something unique without copying other styles. The result of this was magnificent lines, rich woods, and an overall beautiful design that we still love today.

Without doubt, Queen Anne cherry dining sets have taken foreign techniques and coupled them with modern materials to create a distinct style not found with any other furniture. For instance, Queen Anne cherry dining sets and other furniture pieces are beautifully proportioned but with just the right balance of embellishment. In other words, while you will find gorgeous designs incorporated into the furniture, typically the additions are subtle, allowing the actual furniture to take center stage while the enhancements are just that.

Then, many Queen Anne cherry dining sets are made with stunning lacquer work. Known as the “Gesso Design”, the style features oriental flare, which is coupled with Dutch inspiration. Although you can find some Queen Anne cherry dining sets made with clustering scrolls, Amorini, Acanthus, or Heraldic motifs, or various random designs, most sets are simple with minor embellishment.

In the beginning, most Queen Anne furniture pieces were made from dark walnut, although you would occasionally see pieces made from beech, oak, and other materials found in nearby forests. However, as the style of furniture became known for its soft elegance, artisans began turning to other woods to include cherry, even though walnut is also a favorite. As you can see, Queen Anne cherry dining sets are truly magnificent, something to consider if you want to best of the best.
