Dining Room Buffet

A dining room buffet is a great way to add a touch of elegance and refinement to your formal dining area. Dining room buffets are large pieces of furniture that are used to store a family’s formal dining ware, and can also be a great help when holding a dinner party with many dishes away from the kitchen. 

The ideal dining room buffet will have several drawers, cupboards and surfaces to assist in storage as well as in placing items within convenient reach for a large dinner. Many modern buffets will include lighting, and it is essential that the cupboards of your dining room buffet include glass windows, as a way of showing off your fancy formal dining ware.

There are several pieces of formal dining ware that you will want to store in your buffet. Utilizing the buffet for the purpose of storing these items will save a lot of cupboard space in your kitchen, as well as making the formal dining materials more accessible when it comes time to set the table. Here are some of the items you will want to store in your dining room buffet.

China:  In most homes, the china set serves two purposes. The first, of course, is as instruments for dining off of. In most cases, however, the china is only rarely brought out, as it is simply too expensive to be used for everyday or even frequent use.  Instead, china serves as a status symbol, and a dining room buffet allows you to show off your china set in an elegant manner. China should be stored in your buffet so that it is highly visible, not in the drawers but rather in the glass cupboards.

Crystal: The dining room buffet is ideal for storing your crystal glassware. As with china, the crystal glassware is more frequently used for observing than for actually using, and thus you will want it stored in as visible a manner as possible. Adding some lighting to your buffet is a perfect way to have your crystal catch the eye of visitors and set it off in a beautiful glow.

Cutlery:  Formal silverware can also be stored in the buffet, and this will save space within your kitchen as well as making the task of setting up the formal dining table more convenient. Some people like to show off their formal cutlery as well, and one idea is to put a sample of each piece of the set in the glass cupboards while storing the others within one of the drawers of the hutch of the buffet.

Linens:  Formal dining linens should also be stored within the dining room buffet. Any cloth napkins, table cloths, and placemats will be within convenient reach when setting the dining table. Again, for people who want to show off their dining linens, include a sample in the cupboards of the dining room buffets and place the rest within the drawers.

When it comes time for the dinner itself, a buffet which incorporates a fold-down counter top makes for a great place to store any beverage containers or dishes that may take up too much room at the table.
A dining room buffet serves two purposes in the home. They are excellent showcases for formal dinner ware as well as being a beautiful addition in themselves, and a dining room buffet can also be an extra convenient piece of furniture when it comes time for a big dinner.
