Oak Dinette

Oak Dinette Overview

The oak dinette is meant to be used for serving and eating meals in an informal setting or grabbing a meal on a run. Most dinette tables are slightly smaller in size and located in a kitchen area, patio or breakfast nook and are less expensive, so are more or less a “starter” table set for newly married couples or people just starting out.

A dinette can either be benches on one side with chairs on the other side, or benches on both sides which would be similar to a cafe atmosphere. The name “dinette” was taken from its original meaning, which is a nook or alcove located in or near a kitchen and used for informal meals. The oak dinette is a highly dependable set for the kitchen area due to the highly durable oak veneer top.

The oak dinette may be made in a different way than the larger dining room tables as it is used in the kitchen or alcove area instead of in the dining room area where most larger oak tables would go for the main meals or holiday meals. The cost of some dinettes is lower because of less material and less expensive materials, such as the oak finish veneer tops instead of sold oak wood.

An oak veneer is a thin layer of oak glued to a cheaper cut of wood beneath it. The dinette settings are used often and have a higher traffic area as compared to the dining room setup, and the hardwood of the oak wood top, whether veneer or solid oak, will last longer than a soft wood table would. It will also show less wear and tear than other tables due to the difference in materials. Some of the chairs to the oak dinette also have fabric seats in assorted patterns and colors to further save money in order to keep prices down.

There are oak dinettes that are not oak veneer but actually solid oak furniture with solid oak chairs at a higher amount of money. Furniture grade oak is a fairly heavy, hard and strong wood and the oak dinette that is made from cherry wood will last for a long time due to this.

Oak has been around a long time in history due to its reliability to stand up against almost anything, durability and beauty, many reasons it was so widely used in the early American days for all furniture and cabinetry woodwork. A man who loves to work with oak wood uses the palette of wood types as an artist uses paint to put together a work of art. Each type of wood and color supply many different things that enhance with strength, color, texture and beauty. Handmade furniture in the early days were what people depended on to last, similar to the quality work of the oak dinette furniture of today.
